Effective Ways To Declutter Your Mind

I get it, life gets hectic and when you are a Mum, juggling work and life, it is very easy to take on a lot - sometimes, take on too much! The modern world, never stops moving, our minds can feel just as clattered as our homes can get after a full work week, two sick kids and a lot of Uber Eats!

If you’ve ever felt mentally drained or overwhelmed, it’s time to hit the reset button. Just like decluttering that messy house, clearing your mind can bring a sense of peace, focus, and balance.

It’s Time To Brain Dump!
Sometimes, your mind feels chaotic because it’s holding too much information. When you are feeling like there is too much going on and you can’t keep up, grab a notebook and a pen and write everything that’s swirling around in your head. Leave nothing unturned, jot down all your tasks, worries, ideas, and reminders. It’s a simple way to see through the haze and begin to get some clarity on what you need to prioritise.

If you prefer a digital alternative, use your phone’s Notes app and set calendar reminders so you stay on track!

Set Boundaries with Digital Overload

Your phone, inbox, and social media feed are cluttering your brain way more than you realise! I get it - it’s easy to get caught up in the latest world news, that juicy celebrity goss and those hilarious trends - Hyperpigmentation anyone? - but you really need to start setting boundaries. This means unfollowing accounts that drain your energy and setting yourself screen-free times. Don’t forget to turn those notifications off so you are not constantly reaching for your phone.

Mindfulness is not just a buzz word

Mindfulness isn’t just about meditation - it’s about being fully present. Whether you’re sipping morning coffee, walking first thing in the morning, or eating your lunch, grounding yourself in the present moment quiets all the mental noise and helps to reduce the stress you may be experiencing. It’s the small mindful moments that add up which will help to clear the haze, and clam your mind.

You need to prioritise

The truth is, working Mothers always have too much to do! And yes, sometimes, you have do most of it - but you don’t have to do it all! Prioritise what truly needs your attention and learn to delegate if you can. Sometimes, you may even need to let go of something that no longer serves you. I mean, do you really need to show up to all those meetings at work? Or maybe you can stay off the P&C for a little while? It’s ok to say no when you needt, and remind yourself taht rest is just as important as productivity.

Create Mental White Space

Just like a minimalist room feels open and peaceful, your mind needs space too. Schedule downtime in your day where you can, whether it means you wake up an hour earlier in the morning, or you make it a routine to go for an evening walk, giving your mind time to breathe fosters creativity, clarity, and a sense of inner calm.

Your mind is your most valuable space - that’s why it’s so important to keep it clear, focused, and intentional. By decluttering your thoughts, setting boundaries, and embracing mindfulness, you can create sense of mental freedom that allows you to feel lighter, think clearer, and live with purpose.

Remember, this goal isn’t achievable overnight, and in reality, you may have weeks when you feel like it’s impossible (we’ve all been there right?) But, the important thing is that you keep going. Even one small achievement is one step forward - celebrate your small wins!

Now, take a deep breath and start decluttering - one thought at a time!
