Why Wellness Needs To Be Simplified

If you have been living on Earth the last couple of years, then you will know that Wellness has been the buzz word that just keeps growing and growing in popularity.

While as a collective we all witnessed the World changing through a World wide pandemic, it became increasingly important to take note and take action of our rapidly decreasing Wellness.

There wasn't one person who escaped unscathed. We have all been impacted in some way by various degree, but somewhere over the last two and a half years, we have had to stop, take check and make a choice that impacted our Wellbeing.

But first, what is Wellness?

By definition, Wellness is the act of practicing healthy habits on a daily basis in order to thrive.

Sounds pretty simple right? Then why do so many people struggle? Why are the emergence of Wellness Coaches, Wellness mentors and other Wellness practitioners in such high demand?

One one hand, Wellness seems to have become related to a specific number of activities. A lot of people think of meditation when asked about Wellness but we need to really look at Wellness as an umbrella term to truly understand it and know our capacity to practice Wellness activities.

Wellness practices aim at achieving good physical and mental health and you can achieve that by doing more than meditating.

The main thing is that we are mindful in that moment and allowing ourselves to just be present. Our own Wellness will largely be determined by our very own needs, likes and desires.

So, what classes as a Wellness practice?

Well mediation IS right up there because it allows us to really be present in the moment, practice breathe work and still the mind. Meditation is one of the best things you can do on a daily basis.

Other Wellness activities can include:

  • Exercise

  • Hiking

  • Walking on the beach

  • Reading a book

  • Listening to a motivational podcast

  • Baking

  • Painting

  • Walking your Dog

  • Stretching your body

  • Journaling your thoughts

  • Soaking in a bath

  • Reciting affirmations.....

All of a sudden, Wellness practices just got bigger didn't they?

We are all individuals with different needs and desires. I could ask someone to recite affirmations with me and while they may do that person some good, they may benefit more from walking their Dog and just letting their thoughts wander.

Wellness is as individual as we are.

The trouble is, we don't often think of these things as wellness, some of us are "too busy" to do the things we love. Many are lost in their screens and some are too tired, too broke or too "insert excuse here" to take some quality time with yourself and bank some much needed Mindful Minutes.

This is where Wellness coaches and mentors can play a pivotal role in offering their services to people who are struggling prioritise or just don't know how to begin looking after their own Well-being.

Wellness can also extend to the things we consume, not just food wise, but what are we listening to? What are we watching? What products are we using?

This doesn't mean that we are not allowed to laze on the couch watching Sex & The City re runs eating chocolate chip ice cream ( I love those days!)

It simply means we fill our time and homes mostly, with the good stuff and enjoy the treats life has to offer on a casual basis.

Natural products, aromatherapy candles and scents, botanical Skincare and even crystals have become a staple in some peoples homes as they consider their Wellbeing and the benefits that non toxic living can have on their health.

You may actually be being saturated with Wellness products at the moment but I am here to tell you that Wellness does NOT need to be so complicated and that Wellness really just begins with you and that things that make you feel more alive, more energised and more content.

The best way to start is write down a list - no matter how big - of all the things you love. Sunsets, puppies, cooking, playing a musical instrument....they all make the list, as long as they make you happy.

Pick one thing from your list and intentionally make the time to do that activity.

It's a simple way to begin and often challenging for busy people ( single parents - I hear you) but there truly are enough hours in the day for you to pick one activity and one day to start!

Then the hard part begins...........the discipline to continue doing what makes you sing. But is it worth it?

You bet it is!

Don’t forget to be kind to yourself!

xx
