Why So Salty?

Pink Himalayan Salt has been around the Wellness Community for a while now. You can purchase anything from salt soaks to table lamps made from salt and benefit from the healthy uses  associated with the mineral - and they are plentiful!

Firstly, where does this salt come from and how did we discover it's plethora of health benefits?

Pink Himalayan salt is extracted mainly from the Pakistan region where the mineral is found in huge quantities in the marshes and salt mines to the West of the Himalayan Mountains. The salt gets it's pink colour from all the trace minerals like Magnesium, Potassium and Calcium.

Around the late 2000s, Pink Himalayan salt exploded into popularity and people began to pay notice to it's many uses for one's health and wellbeing.

High in Magnesium, the mineral can be absorbed by the body transdermally so it's often used in bath soaks, exfoliating agents and other skincare products.

For your skin, and muscles, this may mean:

~ As an exfoliating agent, pink Himalayan salt will polish your skin and remove dead skin cells, dirt and traces of pollutants.

~ It can soothe irritated skin and calm conditions like eczema and psoriasis

~ It can aid in muscle recovery. A bath soak high in magnesium will help soothe tired and sore muscles. Many PTs and Fitness professionals recommend salt soaks as part of a muscle recovery treatment.

~ It can target specific parts of the body like feet and hands when used as soaks. This will help soothe tired muscles and contribute in the recovery of conditions like Plantar Fasciitis if used together with medical advice.

This incredible salt is one of the cleanest minerals used in skincare and wellness. Combined with other minerals it can really deliver a wonderful experience for your overall Health.

Pink Himalayan salt is really one of the most versatile ingredients out there! Which other mineral can be a scrub, a mist, a lamp and even an entire room you can sit and meditate in?

My favourite thing at the moment are the amazing bricks being made from salt and used to create incredible installations like this wall from

Salt hasn’t always had a good rap and once upon a time, it was seen as something to avoid completely from your diet. Now that more research has been done, it has been found that Salt, like all minerals, can have a good part to play in your overall health and wellness.

Pink Himalayan salt has often been promoted to have added health benefits when compared to other salts in the market, however, there are no official studies and not enough evidence to fully back these claims.

According to Healthline* Pink Himalayan salt is less processed than table salt and may contain trace nutrients and minerals. It may provide health benefits.

The natural harvesting process allows pink Himalayan salt to possess many other minerals and trace elements that are not found in regular table salt.

Some people estimate it may contain up to 84 different minerals and trace elements. In fact, it’s these very minerals, especially iron, that give it its characteristic pink color.

In short…you may have to use your own judgement when using this versatile Salt for it’s nutritional value. However, no matter what the use, it sure is a versatile and beautifully aesthetic mineral which will be a permanent resident in many people’s homes and work places.

Do you use Pink Himalayan salt in your everyday life?

Thanks for reading and remember to be kind to yourself.
